Why I am Running / Issues:
Donna is passionate about education. As a first-generation college graduate, she understands that success in education is the ticket to a better life, both personally and economically. This passion led her to study different educational models and utilize those that best suited her children. As a foster Mom and a host Mom for international students, she has supported children in a variety of educational settings. The value of this experience is that she is an out-of-the box thinker regarding education. She does not believe in continuing to do things that are not working. Manchester is failing our children. 7 out of 10 children are not at grade level for English. 8 out of 10 are not at grade level for math. Unless this pattern is interrupted, these children’s future will be limited, potentially causing a lifetime of economic and personal difficulty.
The Manchester Board of Education (BOE) oversees the town education system. Every decision that affects the schools must be approved by the BOE. If we keep re-electing the same people, we will continue to have the same dismal outcomes. Only 30% of the town makes their voice heard in town elections. If you care about the kids in this town and want to make sure that your educational tax dollars are providing successful outcomes, this is your chance to turn the tide. Make your voice heard. Encourage your friends to vote. Absentee ballots will be available beginning October 7. Election Day is November 7.
Donna has lived in Manchester for 28 years with her husband, Will. She has coached soccer with the Manchester Soccer Club and taught Hands-on Science and Hands-on History classes in a variety of settings. Donna’s curiosity, analytical mind and love of math and science led her to earn a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. Her love of people led her to earn a master’s degree in ministry, which she has used in various student ministries to help participants grow personally and intellectually.
In her free time, Donna enjoys swimming, kayaking and hiking.
